Is there a way to see how many hours of playback time my liked playlist is?
Every few months I audit my “Liked videos” list to see how much time I’ve queued up for later. YouTube doesn’t show a total anywhere, yet the list works just like any other playlist under the hood. Here’s the quickest way I’ve found to get a trustworthy number.
- Grab the playlist ID. Open your liked videos in a desktop browser. The URL looks like
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=LLxxxxxxxx. Copy theLL…portion. - Run it through the calculator. Paste the link into the YouTube Playlist Length Calculator and hit “Calculate”. Because the playlist is private, you’ll need to supply your own YouTube Data API key. The tool will then return the total duration plus a breakdown of each entry.
- Keep or prune. Once you know the total hours, it’s easier to decide which videos to archive. I usually move long-form items into a separate watch-later list or a saved playlist so the liked queue stays manageable.
That’s it. No third-party extensions, no manual copying—just the same API call YouTube Studio relies on. I store the output in a notes app, which makes it fun (and slightly alarming) to see how my queue grows between check-ins.
